He says, “we show videos too- dozens and dozens of video depicting officers being murdered during routine encounter with ‘nonviolent’ and ‘unarmed’ subjects.” He knows specifically how officers are trained, because he trains them for a living. Almost all of them got into this profession because they wanted to help people.” Glennon understands the way the officers are trained and work, since he’s been in this profession for 3 decades.
Glennon also says that, “living in the cop world for over 30 years has proved to me unequivocally that the vast majority of those in law enforcement are honorable. They need to have a different kind of training that will attack the problem at hand with the Walter Scott case. However, it is hard to justify what kind of force to use during a stressful situation such as that.Ī retired third-generation law enforcement officer, and the owner of Calibre Press and the Street Survival Seminar for police training, Jim Glennon states that “we don’t train near adequately enough - or sometimes even in the right ways - but we rarely use force.” Now Katz believes that “addressing implicit bias through training may not be enough.” Since Glennon states that they don’t train enough, maybe that’s what officers and law enforcement agencies need to change. With this being the case, if force is applied and it was found reasonable, then that means the officer isn’t required to be disciplined for the actions taken place. With enough adequate training to prevent racial bias, officers can protect the civilians’ lives and the public.Ī former public defender, Walter Katz states, “the current legal justification for using both lethal and non-lethal force is very broad.” Officers are only meant to use force, if they were involved in a life threatening situation.
Use of lethal force is a necessary choice made by the officers only under harmful or life threatening situations to themselves or others.
